Nautilus Marine Insurance Agency - Our People

Our People

Nautilus Marine was established by Paul Wilson, Mark Crockford and Wendy Dudley. The Nautilus Marine Executive team have in excess of 100 years experience handling the insurance of pleasure craft.

Mark Crockford - National Marketing Manager

Mark Crockford

Mark moved from Adelaide to join Club Marine as the Victorian Branch Manager in 1996. At the time of his resignation in April 2005, Mark had risen to the position of National Sales and Distribution Manager, controlling the management of all internal and external sales, including training and compliance. Mark is excited about promoting a new and worthwhile product to both the marine and insurance industries as well as the direct consumer. He states “The pleasure craft insurance industry has been dominated by a single player for far too long! Nautilus Marine is here to provide a correction to this situation which will see better terms and conditions being made available for all boat owners.”

Wendy Dudley - National Operations Manager

Wendy Dudley

Wendy began employment with Club Marine in 1979 and at the time of her resignation in April 2005, had risen to the position of National Administration Manager. Without doubt the most highly skilled pleasure craft administrator in Australia, Wendy sees the challenge of developing the operating systems of Nautilus Marine, as one of great excitement. “It’s like starting with a blank canvas and creating exactly what you want and need."

Lyndon Turner – CEO & Commercial Manager

Lyndon Turner

Lyndon came across to Nautilus Marine in March 2007 to start the commercial division. Nautilus Marine then commenced providing business insurance for occupations providing products and services to boat owners nationwide. Whether a repairer, marina, charter vessel operator, retailer, yacht or boating club, Nautilus Marine can provide specialist cover via our network of insurance brokers. Commencing in marine insurance at Club Marine in the 1990’s, he then moved across to insurance broking with I C Frith and Associates, where he was the National Manager – Marine and Associated Industries, here he organised specialist insurance programs for marine industry clients nationwide. Lyndon says "what was lacking within many marine insurers was the needs of businesses catering to owners of Pleasurecraft, they were more aligned to organising transit cover for goods worldwide or covering ships, Nautilus really helps both the boat owner and the businesses servicing boat owners."

Damian Pugh - National Underwriting Manager & Qld State Manager

Damian Pugh

Despite being a qualified Boat Builder by trade, Damian was drawn into the pleasure craft insurance industry and began his insurance career with Club Marine in 1986, progressing through both the pleasure craft and Commercial Hull portfolios until being appointed National Commercial Fishing Vessel Manager in 1996. After developing a successful commercial fishing account, Damian left Club Marine in 2000 to take on the role of Australasian Underwriting Manager for AUA, a specialist underwriting agency developed to write Aquaculture Stock Mortality Insurance. In 2003 Damian left the insurance industry and purchased a business that specialized in Marina and Pontoon manufacturing and repair which he recently sold to join Nautilus Marine. Damian states that "To be involved with the development of Nautilus Marine, particularly with the expertise already on board, is an extremely rewarding position to be in. It’s about time boat owners in Australia had a real alternative boat Insurance product range to consider."

Jared Kaplan – NSW State Manager

Jared Kaplan

Jared began his insurance career with AAMI gaining a broad knowledge of the insurance industry. Soon realising that an insurance company is only as good as it’s claim service. He took it upon himself to specialise within this field. Looking for a challenge, Jared took up the position as Marine Claims Manager of Trident Insurance, which taught him the skills and understanding of an ever expanding pleasure craft market. Jared said "That when the opportunity to join Nautilus Marine arose and to stand along side the best people in the industry, it was simply an offer I could not refuse."

Raymond (Ray) Fisher – WA State Manager

Raymond Fisher

Ray started his working life with a Lloyd’s broker in London and had the privilege of working in the famous Lloyd’s underwriting room. After he migrated to Australia in 1972 Ray was employed by Lep insurance Brokers in Sydney as a binder underwriter for pleasurecraft, fishing vessels and marine cargo.

Ray joined Club Marine in 1978 as a State Manager working originally in Western Australia and then spending time in Sydney, New South Wales, and then returning to Western Australia to further establish Club Marine in that state. He resigned in October 2005 after 27 years of service. Ray puts his personal success down to providing an exceptional level of service to his clients and now that he has joined the Nautilus Marine team many of these old clients have sought him out to personally handle their boat insurance.

Ray states "It was an easy decision to join Nautilus Marine as I have a great respect for the expertise and enthusiasm of the rest of the team. There is a genuine need for the marine industry and boating public to have some true competition in the boat insurance market, and Nautilus Marine is here to fill that need. I am truly looking forward to establishing the brand in Western Australia, and being part of its success."

Trish Flaherty

Mark Crockford

Trish joined Club Marine in 1989 after leaving school, and at the time of her resignation in May 2007, had held the position of State Manager SA for twelve years. As state manager Trish had been responsible for managing not only the development and administration of the SA branch but also the various boat shows held locally as well as assisting with interstate boat shows. Trish has also had a long and close involvement with various groups and business’s within the retail and wholesale marine industries as well as the SA insurance industry, allowing her to build strong relationships within both groups.

Trish states “The decision to join Nautilus Marine and offer boat owners an alternative for their insurance needs and to be involved with a company that can offer the entire suite of marine related insurance products, including the commercial lines products for the marine industry, was too good an opportunity to give up. I am very excited about building and promoting Nautilus Marine in South Australia!”

“Boating in SA is about to enter a new phase with many new marinas and improved boating infrastructure being developed. This is great news for boat owners and it is my opinion that Nautilus Marine is one of if not the only company with the ability to capitalise on this growth!”
