Participants in the prestigious Clipper Round the World Race are heading for New South Wales, with the fleet stopping over at Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club from 1-10 January 2024. Newcastle Harbour will be a hive of activity for the duration of the event, with the Clipper Dome being a focal point of this activation.

Throughout their stopover, the Clipper race crew and supporters will be experiencing the best that Newcastle has to offer, from local cafés to Hunter wineries to sand dune adventures, and will participate in some activities to promote sustainable action to maintain Australia’s magnificent coastline.

The fleet will set sail on their next leg around the world on 10 January, with the race starting at 3pm. Starting within the harbour, Newcastle’s unique location will transform into a natural amphitheatre, creating many locations around the city, perfect for capturing the excitement of the race. There will be fantastic viewing opportunities along the waterfront of Newcastle, the dual breakwalls of Newcastle and Stockton, and Fort Scratchley, with the fort’s cannon set to fire to signal the start of the race.
