Welcome to the dream
E6 is the flagship of Elan’s performance orientated E-Line, and was designed by a “dream team” of specialists: Humphreys Yacht Design, Pininfarina, Gurit and Elan. Humphreys Yacht Design is focused on naval architecture. Specifically, it focuses on distilling more performance on a fully-fitted yacht, while keeping the dual-purpose 60+60 ethos that Elan E-Line yachts are known for. Pininfarina did the styling of the yacht, taking the familiar design language of the Elan E-Line to a new level of aesthetics and functionality. Elan led the project and constructed the yacht, while setting a new standard in composite engineering with the help of the world’s leading composite specialists, Gurit. The E6 is therefore one of the lightest fully-fitted yachts for serious sailors who expect superior performance, but intend to use it for leisure with family and friends as well.
Design and comfort
The Elan E6 was created for skilled and demanding sailors who also want a high level of comfort and cruising advantages. This represents a return to Elan’s DNA, pushing the boundaries of her performance and aesthetics. The E Line is known for the active chine design, twin rudders and T-shaped keel, but the team at Elan and Humphreys Yacht Design also fine-tuned the new hull design to push the performance in various sailing conditions, and all points of sail beyond what would be typically considered feasible for a yacht of this type.
The E6’s design finds success in all respects, but some elements truly make this yacht iconic. The coachroof window lines
celebrate the heritage of Elan’s E Line, while the portlight fold gives the E6 a sporty line and an instantly recognisable look. In the interior, the main stairs in the saloon forecast the hexagonal motif of the interiors, and are a centrepiece connecting it all. Instead of wood, the stairs are made of GRP, which carries Elan Yachts to completely new dimensions of design, ergonomics, and durability.
The creative form is brought to life by the natural oak veneered interior and enriched with solid wood finish. Optional performance okoume furniture keeps the weight down, while not distracting from the boat’s luxurious look and feel. The carefully selected colour scheme complements the yacht’s beautiful lines, flowing from the rear cabins all the way up to the master cabin’s island bed, invoking the feeling of elegance in motion. Optional storage boxes with a grill, sink and
a refrigerator are available, as well as two sizes of bathing platforms. Along other lockers, mainsheet ropes are fed to dedicated boxes on the cockpit sides.
The race is on
The Elan E6 has been designed as a cruising yacht with offshore racing features, and while it can easily be sailed by an
experienced couple, it truly shines with a good crew. Three pairs of Harken winches, ideally positioned for precision trimming and fast unobstructed movements, are the result of extensive in-house testing with an Olympic sailing team for optimal placement of deck gear.
The DCX triradial cut full batten mainsail and overlapping jib with vertical leech battens, by OneSails, provide impressive
power and are perfectly balanced. The main sheeting system is made easy with oversized blocks and the recessed mainsheet traveller in the cockpit sole keeps the cockpit clean and safe to move about quickly. The carbon bowsprit has fixed points for an optional gennaker, and code zero to supercharge the off-wind performance. With deep twin rudders, the E6 tracks effortlessly, and the steering is incredibly light for a yacht of this size making handling a breeze.
The E6 is already proving to be a hot contender in the summer twilight series on Sydney Harbour, notching up some impressive results. opportunity is also there to sail the yacht up to The Whitsundays from June to October this year, allowing each owner up to four weeks cruising in the tropical waters. Each 20 per cent share will entitle owners to 69 days per year, with 28 of those being in the achingly beautiful Whitsundays. At the end of the three year term, the yacht will be sold with proceeds to be split amongst the owners.
