Matt Walford, COE, D’Albora Marine, talks us through their approach to boat sales and introduces us to the impressive new Azimut 53 Flybridge Motor Yacht.
Can you please share a brief introduction of d’Albora Marine?
d’Albora Marine started around six years ago initially just selling pre-owned boats. After building a small team along the East Coast we moved into new boat sales, initially with Azimut Yachts and then later with Bertram Yachts. Today we sell new and pre-owned boats right around Australia including providing after sales and warranty support.
How does d’Albora Marine operate in conjunction with the d’Albora marina network?
d’Albora Marine is located in many of our marina offices across the d’Albora network. Our boat sales team works very closely with on-site team members and the client services division in relation to marina berthing, boatyard services and assisting where possible. We have the benefit of owning and operating numerous boatyards in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. We have recognised that this specific in-house capability is very valuable to many of our owners and so we have worked closely within the business to unlock this value for them.
d’Albora Marine is the exclusive Australian dealer for both Azimut Yachts and Bertram Yachts. How long have you represented these two brands and what led d’Albora Marine to select them?
We have represented both brands for about four years now. They are both high quality manufacturers and tier one global boat brands, so we felt they were a great fit for the business and our clients alike. d’Albora Marine also offers a full-service boat brokerage.
Please talk us through d’Albora Marine’s approach to used boat sales.
From the outset we have always been very big on quality. We have made very deliberate decisions about the service we provide. The selection and training of our team, the processes we use and the platform we have mean we can deliver a very consistent experience for our clients, along with the desired results.
For readers who aren’t familiar with Azimut, can you give us a snapshot of the brand and where these vessels sit within the market?
Azimut is part of the Azimut Benetti Group, which is a leading global manufacturer of luxury production motor yachts. The range comprises of sports yachts, flybridge motor yachts and superyachts starting at 45ft and extending up to 145ft.
Can you share some brand background about Azimut? Founded in 1969, Azimut has a forward-thinking attitude towards constructing beautiful and avant-garde yachts with AZIMUT S7. emotional appeal. Over time, its innovative vision has surprised and captivated industry and boaters alike and they continue to be a leader in design and technology today.
Is there such a thing as a typical Azimut owner? While it is difficult to generalise, most of our owners have a higher level of appreciation for design, technology and performance.
Give us a brief overview of the Azimut 53 Flybridge.
The 53 (which is actually 55ft overall) is part of the Flybridge Series which comprises open flybridge motor yachts from 53ft to 78ft. The 53 has really replaced the previous and very popular 55 Flybridge. The major changes and the move to Volvo IPS enables better manoeuvring and fuel economy, reduced noise and vibration and more space inside the boat. They also opened up the aft galley further to optimise the flexibility of the main deck around indoor-outdoor living. It’s the perfect family flybridge for Australian waters.
How would you describe the living spaces on board this vessel?
Azimut has made some very deliberate decisions to create space and a feeling of light and openness. The galley has been totally opened up, the transition to the forward lounge is wide with shallow steps, and the headroom and window sizes are noticeable. So, it feels very relaxing to be on board the 53.
How do you imagine people using this vessel?
At this size and with the integrated yacht propulsion system (Volvo IPS), it’s very easy to see a young family setting off for a day or weekend and operating the boat themselves without crew. The spaces are just as conducive to all being together as they are to spending some time alone.
Talk us through the top five features of this boat.
- Main deck which offers exceptional indoor and outdoor spaces.
- Ease of operating with the Volvo IPS.
- Spacious flybridge.
- Stunning exterior designed by acclaimed yacht designer Alberto Mancini.
- Luxurious master cabin.
What are the key optional extras you recommend adding to this vessel?
There are many great options for owners to consider, however a stabiliser, hard-top and cockpit docking station joystick would all be towards the top of my recommendations list.
Talk to us about the build quality and craftsmanship of this vessel.
Something of note which applies to all Azimut Yachts, is the renowned fibreglass construction and design techniques which include the use of carbon fibre in most aspects of the upper structure and flybridge. This combined with a shift towards more efficient and eco-friendly power systems, means that Azimuts are more fuel efficient, produce less emissions, have less sea-roll, better handling and better heat properties.
What about power and performance?
The 53 Flybridge is equipped with twin Volvo IPS and has a cruising speed of 26 knots and a top speed of 31 knots. At 26 knots she uses 211 litres per hour and at 31 knots 285 litres per hour.
Tell us about the styling and aesthetics of the boat.
Azimut is known for creating truly special interiors and the 53 Flybridge is no exception. What you will typically see is a more diverse use of designer materials and fabrics as well as design details such as curved edges, custom fixtures and so forth. This creates a designer feel throughout.
How are availability and timelines shaping up for Azimut vessels for Australian buyers?
Being a world-leading builder, we are fortunate to have fast delivery times for most Azimut models.
You’ll love this boat if…you’re looking for a versatile family flybridge with all the best features and equipment along with a designer feel.
