The first unit of the revolutionary Maritimo S50 Sedan Motor Yacht is nearing completion and is on track for its global launch at Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (SCIBS) in May. The core philosophy behind the new model is “a deliberate reimagining of sedan motor yachts for the future”. As Phil Candler, Maritimo General Manager Operations explains, this breakthrough model is decidedly different. “The S50 is a totally new model from concept to design, through plugs and moulds,” he says. “It has the same proven hull, forward and master accommodation, but everything else has been reinvented. From the moment you step aboard, entirely new facets of design make it stand out from every other sedan that precedes it.”

The product of three years of research and development taking in owner and dealer feedback, the S50 is already enjoying strong forward orders and management anticipates many more from its debut at SCIBS 2026.

Maritimo Founder Bill Barry‑Cotter described the new S50 as filling a clear space in the model range and the market. “The S50 was designed for owners who want the full Maritimo blue water experience in a more compact and accessible sedan package,” says the industry veteran who has been designing boats for more than 60 years. “The S55, S60 and S75 have set a strong design direction, and we recognised an opportunity to deliver that same DNA – aggressive yet elegant styling, exceptional interior flow, and true offshore capability – in a slightly smaller footprint. The S50 isn’t simply a refresh; it’s a purpose‑built sports sedan motor yacht created for those who want the refinement of our larger vessels but in a size that better suits smaller berths, lifestyles and cruising intentions.”

A proud heritage

Anticipating global orders for this new model, Barry‑Cotter notes that the S50 blends Maritimo’s heritage with modern advancements by keeping the unmistakable Maritimo aesthetic while introducing the next evolution of its design language. Elements such as the new slender hardtop, more aggressively raked windscreen, refined hull window shaping and enhanced cockpit access bring innovation without straying from the principles that define the brand. Drawing on proven learnings from the M50 and the next‑generation S55, S60 and S75 ensures the S50 feels familiar yet forward looking.

Built genuinely from the hull up as a dedicated model rather than a size‑reduced variant, the S50 delivers superior balance, interior volume and usability compared with competitors. Its larger cockpit, Euro‑style boot providing full lazarette access, and 1.3‑metre platform with both vertical and horizontal actuation offer functionality rarely matched in this segment. Combined with Maritimo’s long‑range cruising ethos and engineering focus, the S50 stands as a true offshore‑capable sedan motor yacht where many in its class are more style‑oriented than adventure‑ready.

On the water, the S50 impresses with a sleek and sporty form. Unmistakably Maritimo attributes of elegant, muscular lines are complemented by edgier, automotive‑inspired accents. The distinctive new slender hardtop provides a sharp look, added protection and improved weight balance. The front windscreen is raked further to add dynamism, with new side windows opening from the front and additional rake in the rear pillar, which also houses fixed glass to elevate the cockpit experience.

Toy story

Stepping aboard, the lower cockpit has been extended and features a suite of innovations. Like the M50, it incorporates a high‑low platform that can hinge vertically against the transom, reducing overall boat length by 750mm to suit smaller marina berths. The enlarged swim platform is 1.3 metres deep, creating more space for stowage or simply relaxing. A new Euro‑style boot hinges to reveal the entire aft lazarette, capable of accommodating a 3.2‑metre tender and a full complement of water toys.

In the upper cockpit, positioned on the same level as the galley for ease of entertaining, lifestyle features include a barbecue grill, fridge, freezer and ice maker to port, as well as a teak dining table and generous banquette seating. The new styling is evident in the geometric quarter panels and increased overhang above seating – design cues that will influence future Maritimo models.

Inside, the galley is located to port and configured with a full return benchtop rather than an island. To starboard is a pantry and bureau that can be fitted with drawer fridges, wine storage or an ice maker, along with ample cabinetry for long‑range provisioning. The saloon delivers the versatility owners expect, with a large C‑shaped lounge and a two‑seater sofa that converts to a double berth for guests. Expansive windows, narrow mullions, skylights and ceiling heights ranging from 2.0 to 2.4 metres enhance the sense of space.

Below decks, accommodation comprises two cabins: a full‑beam master with king‑size bed and ensuite, and a forward VIP cabin with an off‑centre queen bed that converts to twin singles, plus ensuite/day head. In terms of customisation, owners can work closely with Maritimo’s design and interiors specialists on colour palettes, finishes and cabin detailing so each S50 reflects individual tastes.

Power up

The engine room provides excellent access, a clean gel‑coat finish for easy maintenance, and generous headroom. With no wing tanks and a central fuel tank located beneath the accommodation, the S50 benefits from improved weight distribution. On the water, the lighter‑weight S50 delivers strong performance and handling, supported by a fuel capacity of 3,500 litres for extended cruising.

Two propulsion options are available: twin Volvo Penta D13 800hp engines, as fitted to hull number one for display at SCIBS, or twin 1,000hp engines destined for the United States market. Owners can select Garmin or Simrad navigation packages. Preliminary data suggests a top speed of approximately 30 knots.

“The S50 has attracted interest and sales in our three strongest markets – Australia, New Zealand and the United States,” confirms Candler. “It’s an ideal size for many marina berths in the US and presents extremely well against competitors.” Reflecting on more than 60 years in boatbuilding, Barry‑Cotter says he is proud that Maritimo’s current model range represents a cohesive, modern and world‑class line‑up. “The success of the S55, S60 and S75 reaffirmed our design philosophy, and the S50 strengthens that family by offering a new entry point that remains unmistakably Maritimo.”

Maritimo will host the global launch of the S50 Sedan at SCIBS. The show will also feature the Caribbean C27 and C40, Maritimo M50, M55, S55, M60 and the M75 flagship.
