We offer two main ranges: Legend and Protector. The Legend range is primarily sold in New Zealand and includes six models, ranging from 6.7m (22ft) to 11.5m (37ft). The Protector range, which is popular in both New Zealand and international markets (including the US and Europe), is designed for both leisure and commercial use, providing high-end performance and versatility.
Rayglass Boats has a strong following among NZ boaties. What factors do you attribute Rayglass Boats’ popularity to?
Rayglass has a very strong brand following both in New Zealand and internationally. Many of our customers have owned multiple Rayglass vessels over the years, highlighting the loyalty we’ve built within our community. Our reputation for durability, performance, and quality ensures that once a customer experiences a Rayglass boat, they’re likely to come back when they’re ready to upgrade.
What’s brand awareness like among Australian boaties?
The Protector range is very popular in Australia, particularly in Sydney and Western Australia, where it’s recognised as one of the strongest RIB brands. It is also growing in Queensland. The Protector brand has earned a reputation as a high-end vessel that boaties aspire to own, due to its rugged design, performance, and luxury appeal.
Rayglass Boats recently unveiled an impressive new build facility. Give us an overview of the factory operations and your build and design team.
Our new purpose-built premises houses a team of 45 people, including fibreglassing, assembly, and fit-out departments. Our R&D team, led by Rayglass founder Tony Hembrow, consists of one designer and one tooler.

Our boats are designed for a wide range of uses, which makes them appeal to a variety of customers. The Legend range is perfect for family cruising, adventure boating and fishing, while the Protector range is known for its safety features, making it ideal for those who prioritise reliability and performance.

Where does the Protector 380 Targa sit within the Rayglass Boats range?
The Protector 380 Targa is one model down from our largest Protector vessel. It was designed as a slightly smaller version for ease of overseas shipping, as it fits perfectly on a flat rack.

Tell us more about the hull.
Each hull is handmade. With a 30mm thickness, the hull construction is labour-intensive but delivers outstanding durability, performance, and safety.
What about the power and performance?
The Protector 380 Targa slices through the water effortlessly, offering stability and comfort even in rough conditions. Its performance is exceptional, with the new Mercury V10 400 outboards providing incredible power and agility. The tubes contribute additional buoyancy, ensuring a smooth ride even at high speeds. There is also a diesel option available.
Is this also a great boat for entertaining family and friends?
